Heya everyone! Kaka the sports editor returns from an adrenaline pumping match! Argh my head is throbbing madly, im almost hoarse and the FIRE of the HC spirit burns bright within... CHEERING SESSIONS ROCK!!! They rock so much that my body is totally battered from it... but its definitely worth it! Tired yet satisfied, Happy yet sad is the best description of the feelings i have now... Basketball finals between HC and TJ for guys was definitely a pulsating match... with high hopes shattered and reformed within seconds...

Firstly the all-important (ok not that important) results!

HC Basketball Girls thrash VJ 68-34
HC Basketball Boys edged out by TJ 73-65
Netball semi final HC beat AJ 54-38

Perhaps the Basketball Girls result was a foregone conclusion, so i shall not comment too much on it. Basically i felt that HC defended well as a team, preventing many charges into the 2 pt range from being converted into points. This limited VJ to taking jumpshots and 3 pt efforts (which feel that girls may not be able to pull off well). As such they managed to limit their opponent's scoring. HC's offense was very effective, utilizing fast breaks and counterattacks to devastating effect. Also they were strong when performing lay-ups and were not pushovers.

As for Netball semis, I personally only know the result, didnt go and support (Sorry Sam and Nana!), so I dont have anything to say about the match.

Finally, the Battle of the Century, a match that looked like scenes out of Star Wars, the A Division Guys Basketball FINALS!!! Definitely an ELECTRIFYING match! A super charged atmosphere with much firepowder added, 2 basketball titans clashing... A potent brew that boiled over in the final minutes of the match... Triumphant fans for TJ... Silenced fans from HC...

Things certainly started out badly for HC. TJ raced to a 8 point advantage over HC. Whatever we did simply couldnt stop them from scoring. At times HC was even 11 pts behind! We were also plagued with foul trouble, conceding too many free throws to them in the process. Well thats where the visionary coach comes in... He substituted ineffective players early in the game and changed the gameplan. At first the gameplan seemed to be to outgun TJ in jumpshots and 3 pointers. This gameplan was risky and could cut both ways as if effectively executed, the dividends paid will be great in terms of points. However, with such ineffective players, we simply could not pile on the points. Thus i saw a shift in the strategy after substituting the players. He shifted a tall guy (who reminded me of Yao Ming) from the position outside the 2 pt range, into it, in the process converting him from a 3 point shooter and playmaker into that of bulldozer to drive for baskets and lay-ups. This proved particularly effective as his physique allows him to shield the ball effectively before he swerves around to take jump shots or lay-ups, thus providing quite a constant stream of points from him.

However, this only meant that we could match the points scoring from TJ. What we really needed was some BASKETBALL MAGIC to catch up with TJ. That came in the 2nd Quarter where we managed to close the gap to only 33-30 at the end of the quarter. It came in the form of a basket blitz and one of the few 3 pointers HC scored which closed the gap. With HC managing to pull off some ball steals and fast breaks, they managed to close the gap to 33-30 at the end of the 2nd Quarter.

The 3rd and 4th Quarter seemed to be an absolute slugfest, with HC and TJ exchanging "punches" with the lead changing hands frequently. Lightsaber slash here, Force Push there, Sith Lightning countered with Force Shield... Seemed like Yoda versus the Sith Lord where both teams could not sustain their upperhand. Leads extended no more than 6 pts at a time...

However at the climax of the match, TJ's players fully displayed their individual talent to clinch 9 straight points in the last minute to kill off all hopes of a HC comeback victory... with 3 lay-ups/jumpshots and a heart shattering 3 pointer... Victory to TJ... Their strength was perhaps in the range shooting department. I think they pulled off more 3 pointers and jumpshots then us, which allowed them to trouble us from range.

And with that i end this sports report on yet another day at the courts... School spirit runs strong within... and no matter how minor the match, as long as i can go, i'll go... Continuous support for over atheletes is important for them to win... and I believe in that...

Kaka signing off... see you at the Champions League Final... =)
